Since our inception as Blackford Network at the beginning of 2009, we have had a very busy year. After taking care of the mundane but necessary (the name, the committee, the neckie design etc.), we launched straight into a very busy programme. From District to Regional to National, Blackford Network has been busy on every level. The highlights of our year include: the Network Burns Supper Ceilidh (which this year features a very heavy representation from our Network), the Dragnet challenge in Cumbria (where we were the “international contingent”), as well as meeting Peter Duncan (and being in his sketch show at the Fringe!). This is amongst our “usual” evenings of croquet, Laser quest, Gang Show trip, and Games Workshop visit with the District Explorers. Also not to mention the many Network camps that our members attended over the year: Insight, The Gathering, Pub Scouts, Intense, and Leeds SSAGO rally.
On top of this, Blackford District Scout Network Members have done their part to help out and make sure our name has had plenty of limelight. From helping out at the Moonwalk (and getting our interview and pictures on their website), to organising and running Blair Atholl selection camps, to running fundraising events at Sky TV’s annual fun day. Yes indeed, 2009 has been a big, big year for us.
It is also worthwhile to mention that all this ties in with any other duties that our Networkers have. Many are Leaders at other sections or sit on committees to represent the views of young people. For us, Scout Network really is a vital part of our Scouting life, and it merges well with the rest of our responsibilities.
With such a busy year behind us, can we really top it in 2010? Well, time can only tell but with Queen’s Scout Award on our agenda; Blair Atholl to come, as well as many other exciting activities on our mind, it sure looks positive. All we can say is… watch this space.
